Hello everyone!
How are you all?! I have to confess, I didn’t realise quite how long it had been since I last took to the keyboard – so I’m sorry for taking the blog off the grid for a while. It’s been 8 months since I last put one together, but it feels like it could have been last week! Always helps to give us dental folk a bit of perspective as to how 6 monthly appointments fall off the radar sometimes…time just gets away from you.
Anyway, I am back – I am back and as ever, full of chat that ranges from total nonsense, through to very mildly interesting. The last 8 months for me and my little family have very much flown by. Freddie is knocking on the door of turning 3. Three years old. I know. Where has that gone? When I was showing this blog true dedication, he wasn’t even a thought yet, and now he’s a full blown toddler. I am still very much loving Mum life, but in a totally different way to how I was, even back in June of last year. Freddie is the biggest character, but in a way I had never expected. He absolutely thrives on life, and is the most loving, talkative, active, stubborn, temperamental little whatsit. I have absolutely no idea where he’s got it from! He is a very independent person, and every day manages to surprise me with something – whether it’s putting a puzzle together on his own, or calling me out for interrupting him when he’s ‘trying to talk to Daddy, Mummy – how rude!’ – honestly. It’s a journey – and I absolutely love it.
While my home life hasn’t changed much in the past 8 months, my role as a Treatment Coordinator at The Briars certainly has. COVID has brought its challenges to Dentistry, but it has also made us busier than ever before. At the end of last year, for the first time ever, we closed our books to new patients. It was an incredibly strange situation to be in – but was absolutely the right thing to do, allowing our existing patients to access our time and care they deserve. At the start of the new year, we put into place additional days and hours for our existing dental team, allowing us to reopen our books and start meeting new faces once again. This is where my role started to change – I now get the absolute pleasure (and I say that because I do very much mean it) of meeting each new patient, and getting to know them a little better before they then move on to see one of our lovely Dentists. I take scans, take photos, talk teeth, talk treatment, sometimes talk about things totally unrelated – but it allows us the time to get to know our patients that little bit better, and provide the very best service for each person.
I promise it won’t be another 8 months until we catch up again. Though I do hope the next time I take to the keyboard that the world is looking a little more peaceful than it is right now. Stay safe everyone, look after each other – be kind, always.
Love, Amy.
