Good afternoon everyone, and welcome to my first foray into the world of blogging. I can’t say it’s something I thought I would end up doing as a dental nurse, but hey, I’ll run with it – it’s a nice change of scenery.
I will be writing for you all, along with a few other members of The Briars Team – and hopefully we’ll make it something of a success. I read once that writing is like a sport, you only get better with practice – so bear with me, it’s been a long time!
My name is Amy – I am a 27 year old wife, netballer, crazy cat lady, and dental nurse. I have been here at The Briars for two years, and a dental nurse for eight years.
I can’t lie – the dental world wasn’t my first choice. It wasn’t even an option I’d considered, until I went for a routine check-up and saw a sign on the door – ‘trainee dental nurse wanted’. I was at a bit of a loose end, having suddenly decided that university wasn’t for me – why not try this? Who knew how much like hard work being a dental nurse is!? I thought I’d be in for an easy ride – suctioning and sticker giving, right? Wrong. Dental nursing is a weird and wonderful career choice – and I wouldn’t change a thing, but there is so much more to it (more on that later, there are only so many hours in a day!)
Let me briefly introduce to you the place I spend 25% of my life in – The Briars Dental Centre. The practice was established in 1908, and has been home to some of the most highly skilled dental professionals the register has to offer. It functions as both a general dental practice, and a referral centre – keeping us nice and busy, with a wide variety of patients. I’ll post a link to our website, where you can view all of our staff and the treatments we offer – they are a smashing bunch, and a very talented team.
Our aim with this blog is not to bore you rigid with dentistry, but to offer an insight into our world. There may be a few dental hints and tips along the way, but hopefully you’ll get to see the human side of dentistry, away from the masks and that high-pitched drill!
Now get off our blog, and get back into that sunshine while it lasts – who knew a British summer could be this good!?
Amy x
