Hi Everyone!
So this week Amy has been extremely busy in surgery and not had a chance to write her blog. This is a new experience for me so hope I do not ramble on too much =)
Amy has kindly given me some inspiration for this week- as she talked about New Year resolutions and how amazing she has done in her weight loss journey.
I think everyone has at some point started a diet, joined a gym or just watched what they eat. I am one of those people – I am easily lead into signing up or joining plans but then hardly attend! but I have to say since being around new people and getting the encouragement and push that I need to carry on I think that’s what I need- if I have people like that behind me I can do anything!
My Family and friends will all tell you I am not a gym person – I love my weekend lay-ins, watching films and not really paying attention to what I’m eating. Whereas my partner is a very motivated and ambitious person- For months he has been asking me to attend just one class with him to see if I like it.
Finally in October my partner finally persuaded me to go for an induction at his gym- this is not a normal gym where you do weights, running etc. The sessions I go to is called Calisthenics. I can now proudly say I go too and I have been going to this gym for a few months! It may only be a Friday evening for 2 hours but I still go and participate! This surprised me and I’m sure many others!
Calisthenics focus’s on play and strength aspect of fitness over physical aesthetics and movement over muscle. If you’re unsure I would have a little google just to see what these amazing people can do!
I was extremely nervous about asking all the wrong questions like how many people are going to be there? What if I can’t do what they do? When does it finish? Do we have to stay that long? It’s straight after work, what do I eat? Do need to bring drinks with me?
As a dental professional I know that taking in a sugary energy drink is detrimental to my dental health that’s why I am always prepared with a big bottle of water to keep me going, I may have to take a trip to the toilet more than once through the session but at least I know that I will be kept hydrated and not having frequent sugary attacks on my teeth.
The people I have met at this gym have been so encouraging and have never made me feel like I was silly at doing all of these movements and stretches that seem so alien to me! I have to admit after the 2 hour session I do like to get the boxing gloves out and play around- I don’t have a clue where I get the energy from after a session. It makes a huge difference when you actually enjoy a sport and surprise yourself at what you can achieve.
I just want to say I hope you liked my Blog this week and its not bad for 40minutes notice to write from scratch =)
Becky
