If you’ve been told you need multiple teeth removed, or you’re already struggling with failing teeth or uncomfortable dentures, you might wonder: “Is it really possible to walk out with a brand-new smile in just one day?” The answer is yes – and it’s called All-on-4 treatment.
At The Briars Dental Centre in Newbury, we’ve witnessed countless patients transform their lives through this revolutionary smile in a day procedure. But what does it actually involve, and is it right for you? Let’s explore everything you need to know about this life-changing treatment.
Smile in a day treatment, also known as All-on-4 or teeth in a day, is an advanced dental implant procedure that replaces a full arch of missing or failing teeth with a fixed, natural-looking prosthesis – all in a single day.
The technique uses just four strategically placed dental implants per jaw to support a full bridge of teeth. By angling the back implants at 45 degrees, your dentist can avoid areas of low bone density and eliminate the need for bone grafting in most cases. This clever approach means you can have your failing teeth removed and replaced with a secure, functional smile during one surgical appointment.
Unlike traditional dentures that sit on your gums and can slip or cause discomfort, All-on-4 implants are fixed permanently in place. They look, feel, and function just like natural teeth – allowing you to eat, speak, and smile with complete confidence from day one.
According to research published in the British Dental Journal, full-arch implant restorations like All-on-4 have success rates exceeding 95% over 10 years, making this a reliable, long-term solution for patients with extensive tooth loss.
For many of our patients, the decision to pursue smile in a day treatment represents far more than just replacing missing teeth. It’s about reclaiming their quality of life.
Restored Confidence
Living with failing teeth or ill-fitting dentures can erode your self-esteem. Many patients tell us they’ve stopped smiling in photographs, avoid social situations, or feel embarrassed eating in public. All-on-4 treatment gives you back the confidence to smile freely, knowing your teeth look natural and won’t let you down.
Improved Nutrition and Health
With loose dentures or missing teeth, many patients limit their diet to soft foods, missing out on nutritious options like fresh vegetables, lean proteins, and crunchy fruits. All-on-4 implants restore your full biting force – approximately 80% of natural teeth – allowing you to enjoy a varied, healthy diet again.
Enhanced Speech
Missing teeth or loose dentures can affect your speech, causing slurring or whistling sounds. Fixed implants eliminate these concerns, helping you speak clearly and confidently in both personal and professional settings.
Time Saved
Traditional tooth replacement options often require multiple surgeries spread over 12-18 months. With smile in a day treatment, you complete the entire process in just five appointments, getting your provisional teeth fitted on the day of surgery itself.
The Oral Health Foundation notes that patients with dental implants report significantly higher satisfaction levels compared to those with traditional dentures, citing improved comfort, stability, and overall quality of life.
At The Briars, we’ve streamlined the All-on-4 process into five carefully planned appointments, ensuring you receive expert care at every stage whilst minimising disruption to your life.

Appointment 4: Surgery Day—Your New Smile in a Day
This is where the transformation happens. On surgery day, you’ll be under the expert care of Dr Dave Veige, alongside Nick French and our dedicated surgical team.
The entire process, from removing any failing teeth to placing your implants and fitting your provisional restoration, takes less than two hours per jaw. We’ll discuss the surgery day experience in more detail below.
Surgery day is the culmination of careful planning, and we ensure you’re comfortable and relaxed throughout the entire process.
What Happens During Surgery
Sedation and Anaesthesia: We offer various sedation options, from local anaesthetic to conscious sedation, ensuring you’re comfortable throughout the procedure. Many patients report feeling calm and relaxed, with little memory of the surgery itself.
Tooth Removal: If you have remaining teeth that need extraction, Dr Veige will remove these gently and efficiently.
Implant Placement: Using the detailed 3D planning from your CBCT scan, Dr Veige places four titanium implants into precise positions in your jawbone. The back implants are angled strategically to maximise bone contact and avoid vital structures like nerves and sinuses.
Provisional Restoration Fitting: Immediately after the implants are placed, your provisional bridge is attached. These temporary teeth are fully functional and aesthetically pleasing, allowing you to leave the practice with a complete smile in a day.
The entire process for one jaw typically takes 90 minutes to two hours. If you’re having both upper and lower jaws treated, this may be done in a single extended appointment or split across two days, depending on your individual circumstances.
Following surgery, you’ll experience some swelling and discomfort—this is completely normal. We provide comprehensive aftercare instructions and pain management guidance. Most patients find they can return to work within three to five days, though we recommend taking a week off if possible.
Your provisional restoration will remain in place for approximately three to six months whilst your implants integrate with your jawbone through a process called osseointegration. During this time, you’ll attend regular review appointments to monitor healing and make any necessary adjustments.
Once integration is complete, we’ll replace your provisional teeth with your definitive restoration – a beautifully crafted, permanent set of teeth designed to last. These final two appointments are carried out by Dr French 6-8 weeks after your All-on-Four surgery.
According to the International Team for Implantology (ITI), immediate loading of dental implants (fitting teeth on the day of surgery) has proven highly successful when appropriate patient selection and surgical protocols are followed – exactly what we ensure at The Briars.
We understand that All-on-4 treatment represents an important investment in your health and wellbeing. At The Briars, transparency about costs is important to us.
Treatment Costs
This fee includes the surgery, your provisional restoration, your definitive restoration, and follow-up care during the integration period.
Finance Options
To make smile in a day treatment accessible, we offer flexible finance plans, including:
During your initial consultation with our Treatment Coordinator, we’ll discuss all available options and help you find a payment plan that works for you.
When considering the investment, it’s helpful to think about the long-term value. Unlike dentures that need replacing every 5-7 years, or bridges that may require costly repairs, All-on-4 implants are designed to last 20 years or more with proper care. When you factor in the improved quality of life, better nutrition, and renewed confidence, many patients find All-on-4 represents excellent value for their future wellbeing.
At The Briars Dental Centre, we’ve been providing exceptional dental care to the Newbury community for over 110 years. When it comes to complex treatments like All-on-4, experience and expertise matter.
